The core of the ESIS Initiative is the Inventory of Information Society Projects. As of January 1st 1999, a total of 1943 completed questionnaires had been returned by the projects promoters (from EU Member States), entered in national databases and consolidated into the ESIS European database. Below, you will find a statistical overview of these projects.

The ESIS " IS " definition used
IS projects use data processing and telecommunications technologies to support innovative methods of communication between members of society for a wide range of purposes: education and training, healthcare and social care, culture, administration, industry and commerce, research & development, etc.
Projects of this type will generally be:
