The EUMEDIS program promoting the development of the Information Society in the Mediterranean countries has been launched by the European Commission in early 2000. The ESIS survey is specifically defined as the knowledge base for the purposes of EUMEDIS and is mandated to collaborate with the Focal Points established in the Mediterranean countries.

This development is helping in carrying out the communication and dissemination plan for ESIS. The presentation of ESIS became an integral part of the EUMEDIS S activities in Israel. In all EUMEDIS events the value of ESIS is described and demonstrated:

1. The description of survey along with its definition of Information Society;
2. The questionnaire and the database of projects as good sources for seeking partners for EUMEDIS project in Europe and in the region.
3. The ESIS reports as sources for data and understanding the local context for regional development. This is a basic requirement in the guidelines for the EUMEDIS applicants which is ESIS is basic to support.

ESIS II in Israel has been presented in all EUMEDIS events carried so far as an initiative or with the participation of the Focal Point for Israel:

0. Launching event for EUMEDIS in May 23, with almost 100 participants and the presence of the vice head of the EC delegation in Israel, Stephano Di Cara; representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the IUCC Internet II Project; and the directors of the EUMEDIS Focal Points from the Palestine Authority and from Cyprus.
1. Presentation at the Conference of the Israel Association for Computers in Medicine, including distribution of the ESIS presentation handouts in the specially EUMEDIS Focal Point booth.
2. Presentation at the Pisa Ricerche Consortium Workshop held at the Tel Aviv University (June 20, 2000 at the Tel Aviv University Campus).
3. Presentation at the event organised by the Italy-Israel Chamber of Commerce (June 3, 2000).
4. Presentation at the launching event of the Palestinian Authority EUMEDIS Focal Point in Ramalah, July 6, 2000.
5. Presentation at the EUMEDIS Information Day held in Nicosia, Cyprus in July 20, 2000.

Joint work with the EUMEDIS Focal Point (FP) for Israel will be the main anchor for the communication activities of the ESIS II Program in Israel in the future. The ESIS survey results are feeding the FP activities and ESIS is an integral part in the communication activities held by the Focal Point.
