Update April 2000: Bosnia and Herzegovina

1. Information Society Key Person Contacts and Organisations

Bosnia and Herzegovina is still in the process of recovering from the war. Most of its existing activities focus on the reconstruction and rebuilding of its major facilities damaged during the war in the field of transportation, energy and infrastructure. Consequently, there are very few IS activities in the well-defined terms.

In such a situation, almost every ministry try to build its own Information System (IS) tailored it to the country’s own needs, with a little concern about the overall governmental IS. Thus, it is important to list all ministers and to point out those who are officially responsible for the development of the Information Society.

In the past quarter, there have been changes in some ministries in the Republic of Srpska, and included below is a list of the actual ministers, as well as the representatives in the joint BH Presidency and the Assembly. There are no changes in the government of the Federation BiH.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications in the Republic of Srpska is officially responsible for telecommunications and Information Society issues. In addition, it is responsible for the implementation of information technology within governmental institutions. It is responsible for the enactment of legislation of the Law on Telecommunications. The Ministry had a central role in drafting the Program for the Development of Telecommunications.

Contacts: Mr. Marko Pavic, Minister.
