The Information Society is
mainly managed by the Ministry of Posts and telecommunications. It
is in charge of the national telecommunication policy. The
monopoly of telecommunications is until today under the authority
of the administration of Post and Telecommunications.
Apart from the Ministry, one
can point out :
- The Cerist ,
the research centre on technical and scientific
information. It is the only provider of Internet in
Algeria. It has for mission to set up a technical and
scientific network at national scale and to open it to
the regional and international networks. The implemented
network comprehends a backbone of ten sites of
connections: three to the centre, three to the East,
three to the west and one to the south. The total
capacity of connection on the Internet network inside
will pass from 34 Mb/s to 140 Mb/s (September 1999).
The capacity on the Internet network toward United State
and the Europe that is the order of 3Mb/s will increase
to 6Mb/s. This network will connect 80 establishments of
education and research. The centre has created three
regional centres of documentation over the East, West and
Centre regions sustained by five local offices.
- The Algerian
Institute of Normalisation Ianor has been
created by a ministerial decree n° 98-69 of February 21,
1998. It set up the politics of normalisation notably in
the application of conventions and international
agreements. (J.O. 11/98).
- The National Agency
of Valorisation of Results of Research and Technological
Development ‘Anvredet ' has been created by
a ministerial Decree n° 98-137 of May 3, 1998. It
elaborates the national strategy of technological
development and organises the implementation of
observatories and networks of diffusion of the
technology. (Art.4).
- The social and
economic national council CNES having for
mission to review periodically the economic and social
activities of the country will have certainly a great
role to play in information society assessing.
- The main national Institute
of formation and research in data processing, INI
- The association Internet
Society Algeria ISA born in june 1999.
- The research centre
in advanced technology CDTA that gets involved
in new information technologies.
