New management and supervisory board at NJSZT - 01/07/2000
On June 23, 2000, the John von Neumann Computer Society (NJSZT), at its forthcoming general meeting for reelecting officials, elected a new chair, co-chair, and new supervisory board members.
The general meeting held a secret ballot on filling the posts of chair, co-chair, and supervisory board members. István Alföldi remains the managing director of the society. As a result of the voting, the new chair of NJSZT is Péter Bakonyi, who was hitherto the co-chair of the society. The five new co-chairs are: Péter Arató, a professor at the Technical University, Mária Raffai, an associate professor at Széchenyi College, Tibor Remzso, senior member of the Computer and Automatization Research Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA Sztaki), Júlia Sipka, hitherto a co-chair of NJSZT, and Zsuzsa Tószegi, the co-chair of NJSZT's public archives department. The three members of the supervisory board: Miklós Herdon, hitherto a co-chair of NJSZT, Péter Inzelt, director of MTA Sztaki, and Lajos Száva, who kept his post as a member of the society's supervisory board.
György Beck is Compaq's director for the East-Central European region - 17/07/2000
Considering the excellent results shown by Compaq's Hungarian subsidiary over the last several years, and as an appreciation of the work done by its CEO, the European management of the company has entrusted György Beck to direct the East-Central European region, which contains four countries.
His task will be the directing of the Compaq subsidiaries of the region containing Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, and the coordination of their resources, developments, and market activities.
The total turnover of the company in this country region is over 500 million dollars (the size of the information technology market is around 6.5 billion dollars). Compaq currently employs close to 1,000 people in the region, and counting its affiliated partners, the total number of information technology experts it is in contact with is close to several ten thousand. In the future, Beck will be responsible for the activities of this field.
The primary goal set by Beck was for Compaq to reach the same market share in the other countries, 11%, as it has done in Hungary.
Besides his results as CEO, Hungary's impressive economic growth and stability also played a great role in the appointment of György Beck. A further argument was the fact that since February, a regional Compaq professional center has been in operation in Budapest, responsible for the Internet infrastructure.
Extended trust - 19/07/2000
The position of CEO of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) Information Technology Kft., in accordance with the owner's decision, and in recognition of his professional work, will be held for another five years by Ferenc Dombai.
Over the last three years, MÁV Information Technology Kft. has developed into a steadily expanding venture on the information technology market. The strategic goal of the company is, by continuously refreshing and expanding its expert knowledge, and by utilizing their up-to-date know-how and experience, to provide complex, "ready-to-go" solutions to its partners.
New managing director at the head of Xerox Hungary - 19/07/2000
As of July 1, 2000, a new managing director, Hristo Manov, has been named the head of Xerox Hungary Kft. At the same time, Sándor Csata, hitherto the head of the company, as a recognition of his efforts in developing the company, was named the head of the state sector of the East-Central European region. As managing director of the state sector, his tasks will include the management of the governmental, education, and health care fields, as well as the maintaining of relations with the leaders of PHARE, the EU, and the World Bank.
Section heads at the Information Technology Commissioner's Office - 01/08/2000
The section heads of the Information Technology Commissioner's Office were appointed effective from August 1. Péter Szemerei heads the Information Society Section, and Anna Dessewffy is the head of the Regulatory Section. Gábor Kleinheincz heads the Electronic Government Section, which is responsible for coordinating government communication and information technology development.
New director at head of Lucent's new Hungarian company - 12/08/2000
Zoltán Páris was appointed the director of the Budapest-based company called Lucent Technologies Service Networks Kft. - it was announced at a press conference in Budapest, where they also gave account of the foundation and the business plans of the new Lucent company.
The task of the 35-year old Zoltán Páris is to build a new Hungarian organization for the representation of Lucent following the departure of the Enterprise Networks Group from Lucent, and to introduce those products of the world's leading telecommunications equipment producer (primarily equipment and software produced for telecom service providers), which have not yet appeared on the Hungarian market.
Changes in the Hungarian management of Vodafone - 14/08/2000
Beáta Schwartzné Lovász has been appointed managing director of Vodafone as of August 1, 2000, responsible for managing administrative and financial tasks; new appointments were also made at two other key positions.
Attila Németh, who had been working at the company since April as trade director, was promoted to trade and marketing director, replacing Dianne Larsen, who returned to the United States on August 3, after successfully organizing and putting into operation the sale and marketing departments in the elapsed time period since the network launched in November, 1999. Mark McShane, hitherto the purchasing and logistics director, was appointed provisionally to the post of technical director until the end of the year, after Michael Joseph, who successfully managed the building and launching of Vodafone's network, left to continue his work as the managing director of another Vodafone subsidiary.
