Update October 1999: Latvia

On July 1999 the new government was established in Latvia. The Prime Minister - Andris Skele and new Cabinet of Ministers was approved. A new position in the office of Prime Minister was established - the position of the Adviser of the Prime Minister for Informatics. Dr. Edvin Karnitis was appointed to this position. Edvins Karnitis was before Head of the Academic Library and also coordinating the activities in the ESIS II project of the local partner RITI.

Another major change is the establishment of the non-profit stock company "Tiesu nama aģentūra" - "Court House Agency" - Fully State owned under the Ministry of Justice. The organisation was founded by Ministry of Justice to perform different economic and managing functions not specific for Ministry itself. For example - real estate (court buildings) administration, publishing (law literature, adjudgements). In the case the managing the Project "Unified information system of courts of the Republic of Latvia" which will take care of the IS-development in the court system of Latvia.
