Update January 2000: FYR Macedonia

Due the re-organisation of the new Government of the Republic of Macedonia, which took place on December 27^th 1999, some of the ministers have changed.

1. Ministries and Governmental Organisations

• • The Ministry of Science is the Ministry, responsible for Information Society issues. The Ministry has been involved in various IS related activities at the international level and played an important role within the CEEC/EU Forum on Information Society. In addition, it is responsible for the implementation of information technology within governmental institutions. The Ministry of Science finances the Academic and Research Network of Macedonia. The Ministry has also financed various research and development (R&D) programs as well as conferences, workshops and seminars and publications related to the Information Society.

• • Ministry of Economy (http://www.ms.gov.mk/), Bureau of Standardisation and Metrology. The Bureau is responsible for implementing Information Technology standards.

• • The Ministry of Transports and Communications is in charge of telecommunications. It is responsible for the enactment of subsidiary legislation of the Law on Telecommunications. The Ministry had a central role in drafting the National Program for the Development of Telecommunications.

• • The Ministry of Education (http://www.mofk.gov.mk/) manages the usage of information technology in education, particularly in secondary schools, and increasing the efficiency in schools.
