The main changes in the
database were made firstly due
several Government
restructuring changes that
took place in this period. The
number of ministries was
reduced from 21 to 14, and
different ministers were
elected in the ministries of
importance for Information
Society implementation.
Some assistant ministries
were also changed and new key
persons for the information
society took their positions.
New private companies
started to operate as Internet
providers, and new
Associations, governmental and
non-governmental, were
founded.

Ministries and Governmental
Organisations
- The National Assembly of
the Republic of Macedonia
(http://www.assembly.gov.mk/sobranie/)
is the highest
representative and
legislative body in the
country. Amongst other
functions, it passes laws,
the national budget and
the final account of the
national budget, ratifies
international agreements,
and adopts national
programs, declarations,
resolutions,
recommendations, positions
and decisions.

- The President of the
Republic of Macedonia
sponsors the recent
initiative
"e-Macedonia for
All" and founded a
Committee which has
gathered enough expertise
for working on future IS
umbrella policies and
strategy. The major
objective of the
initiative is to
"speed up the
activities of transition
of the country to
Information Society and
Networked Economy".

is the executive and the
supreme body of the state
administration.

- The Ministry of
Education and Science is
the Ministry responsible
for Information Society
issues. The Ministry has
been involved in various
IS related activities at
the international level
and played an important
role within the CEEC/EU
Forum on Information
Society. In addition, it

information technology
within governmental
institutions. The Ministry
of Science finances the
Academic and Research
Network of Macedonia. The
Ministry has also financed
various research and
development (R&D)
programs as well as
conferences, workshops and
seminars and publications
related to the Information
Society.

- Sst. Cyril and Methodius

seminars related to
Information Technology and
Information Society,
especially through its
Faculty of Electrical
Engineering and Faculty of
Natural Science. The
university has also
carried out numerous IS
related R&D projects.

- The Academic and
Research Network of
Macedonia (MARNET) was
established as a public
institution to provide
communication and
information services to
educational and research
community. The Ministry of
Science finances it. The
main activities of the
MARNET are: planning,
organising and managing
the connections between
the organisations from
academic and research area
and the connection with
other countries. MARNET is
developing, organising and
supervising computer
network services and
managing and performing
the necessary central
activities together with
the purchase of necessary
hardware, software and
communication equipment as
well as organising and
carrying out the
appropriate supporting,
educational and
counselling activities and
managing the address space
in computer networks
(under the country code
MK).
