| The
core of the ESIS project is the Inventory of Information
Society projects in the EU and, at present, in the 25
countries of Central, Eastern and Mediterranean areas. A definition of an IS project has been prepared for the Inventory as follows:
In order to ensure improved comparability, to carry out statistical analysis as well as to facilitate consultation and search for information by the public, the Inventory is conducted on the basis of a standardised questionnaire to be filled in by project promoters. The questionnaire, available in all the national languages of the countries covered by the ESIS extension, may be sent directly by the national contractors to project promoters who have been identified or who have requested to participate. The questionnaire can also be downloaded below and send back by fax, post or e-mail to the organisation in charge of the Inventory in the country concerned (see ESIS II Team for contact details). Also, do not hesitate to contact ESIS II contractors if further information or clarification is required. The data collected on IS projects through the questionnaires are entered into ESIS national databases which in turn are centralised into the ESIS central database. The ESIS central database contains a dedicated search engine, called "EsiScope" which permits the selection of projects by combining different criteria: e.g. country, key words included in the project's description and objectives, application areas (education, manufacturing, healthcare, etc.) and sub-sectors (e.g. primary, secondary, adult education), technologies used, funding, etc. As a general rule, all data on individual projects will be treated as confidential and non-attributable outside the Commission. The responses will be included in the publicly accessible database on European Information Society Projects only if consent is given (see special section in the questionnaire " Consent for inclusion "). |
