Regulatory Developments
Malta
Update Memo

The following report outlines new developments in the past three months and the state of on-going developments.

There have been no regulatory developments in the past three months because of the summer holiday period.

Nevertheless, in the coming months, the comments of the recently published 1999 report on the progress of Malta towards accession and the strongly expressed position of the Government to start negotiation as soon as possible will influence the decisions on the restructuring of industry and the liberalization.

The IT and Telecom will be the first priority of the new legislation.

As it was clearly stated during the ESIS Conference in Malta this month, the Maltese Government will ensure a liberalized market for all telecom operations and the adherence to accepted international standards.
