Overview: Egypt

Background:

All the relevant information was retrieved mainly from the Internet, and partly from other official statistical sources.

A total of 154 web sites have been so far identified. The majority of them belong to libraries, to regional and local authorities, to national ministries and to universities. They form part of Egypt’s "information highway", an initiative undertaken by the Information Decision and Support Centre (IDSC).

A total of 12 web sites were built by national ministries presenting their activities, achievements, ongoing projects, future plans, contacts, etc.

Five of the identified web sites belong to the healthcare sector (hospitals). In addition a directory supported by a searching facility (search engine) was built as part of the "health net" project which aims at helping to locate Egyptian physicians of different specialities. This project was developed as part of the "Egypt Information Highway" project by the Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) to promote the use of the Internet in the various fields.
