1. Background
There have been a substantial increase in the number of domain names registered under the ccTLD IL (almost 18%) and in the numbers of the Web sites in Israel in the months of July, August and September 1999.
The updated statistics concerning domain names and Web sites are brought in Tables 3 an 4 below.
However, a careful survey of our sources have not identified a reflection of this growth in the ESIS categories for Web sites. A cross check for this finding can be found in the fact that the growth of Web sites in Israel concentrates massively in the CO.IL top level domain, that is, in domains unrelated to the ESIS categories.
Top level domains like ac.il (academic), k12.il (schools), gov.il (government), muni.il (local authorities) do not indicate any substantial changes.
