The number of sites have only increased marginally in line excepting for the number of further and higher educational sites which has increased sharply mainly due to private school initiatives. The number of municipalities has changed due to more accurate information being supplied by mincom.gov.ma. The number of sites registered with the Moroccan government has increased to 785 as of the 25th of September, a nine percent increase over the last quarter.

Four continuing trends should contribute significantly to the growth of Moroccan sites in the immediate future:

  1. The price of Internet access has continued to drop, with more offers from Maroc Telecom. The price of connection is now of 59 DH HT / month ( 850 DH TTC a year)
  2. According to a study published recently by EC Marketing, more than half of Moroccan SME’s are currently planning their Web sites. Half of the firms interviewed (216) have used the Internet for over a year. None-the-less, in 41% of the sample, web access is limited to upper management.
  3. WAP technology continues to be popular with the press and it is now possible to receive several services, one of them, however is free. Casablanca stock market updates can now be obtained for free using a WAP telephone.
  4. More specialised portals have been published, notably an online market, pharmacy, car dealership, an estate agent and in detail:
