The large communication extension of MTnet put into effect

Upgraded Internet Link with Deutsche Telecom/Global One, from 2Mbit/s to 8 Mbit/s.

The Internet service of Makedonski Telekomunikacii A.D. has provided aggregate link capacity for access to Internet with more than 10 Mbit/s.

• 8 Mbit/s with Deutsche Telecom/Global One;
• 2 Mbit/s link with British Telecom/Concert;
• 256 Kbit/s satellite link with Teleglobe;
• 128 Kbit/s with Cable & Wireless (formal MCI Internet).

All four links operate in redundant configuration, providing the users notably fast and secure access to the Internet with guaranteed performance and the highest quality of service in Republic of Macedonia.

The Internet service of Makedonski Telekomunikacii A.D., MTnet, has completed the installation and configuration of the large communication extension. Until now, 420 dial-up connections have been installed, and the installation of the other 130 connections planned with the Project for the Construction of an MTnet Backbone, will be completed in January 2000. However, until this moment, there are routers installed via 2 Mbit/s links in five cities: Skopje, Tetovo, Ohrid, Bitola, Stip and Strumica, by which the coverage of the biggest part of the territory of the Republic of Macedonia is completed.

* There are two Universities, University of Skopje and University of Bitola with 27 Faculties
 (14 of them have their own homepages) and 5 additional high schools.
