In the last quarter, there has been a substantial increase in the number of web-sites in the regional and local authorities.

At schools, there has been a more visible increase. Computer and telecommunications equipment will be installed before the new school year to be started in September 2000. Under the Project "Internet Classrooms in Each Commune", over 2000 primary and high schools have been equipped with computers with Internet access and education software. As a follow-up, the "Internet Classrooms in Each High Schools" programme (April 1999-September 2000) has been established for 3200 high schools. In addition the project "Interkl@sa", which was organised by the Ministry of National Education, the Parliamentary Commission for Education, Science and Youth, NGOs, private companies and media, has started. As a result of a program of development of computer and telecommunications infrastructure at schools, including those in less developed and rural areas, the estimated number of school web sites has increased. 100% of a new type of schools "gymnasia" will be provided with software and computer and telecommunications equipment.

The permanent increase of web sites conducted by the public administration is a function of implementation of IS services for citizens. Such web sites range from simple lists of contact addresses to sophisticated GIS based interactive services. A lot of them include opportunities for foreign and domestic investors and tourist information. Such web sites are local fora for awareness on information society issues as well. Mr Krzysztof Glomb, the president of "Cities in Internet" Society presented detailed statistics about web services provided by local administration. The most advanced are the opolskie, dolnoslaskie, malopolskie, zachodniopomorskie and pomorskie voivodships.
