- These figures were obtained by ESIS II Romania team, as a process of direct interrogation of the web addresses. Some restrictions (see bellow) still apply, but we can consider these findings as a more accurate statistic than that from the first quarter report. The process is in development and in the future we plan to obtain some kind of web-based feedback from the site administrators to help position each one in the right category.
- We used the http://ftp.rnc.ro/cgi-bin/webhosts.ro page as a source for web hosts in .ro domain (page made by Andrei Petrescu - http://www.rnc.ro/new/personal.shtml ). The page contains only web servers whose names start with www. There are also some other web servers, but we believe that their number will not affect our statistics too much.
- We visited 3602 sites, we found 2155 commercial / other category sites and 1087 sites did not respond, even if they were recorded in the .ro domain. Very limited bandwidth or shutdown of the web servers can cause this.
European Project Sites' such as Tempus, Phare, etc., were classified as the co-ordinator category .
- We also included the political parties and National Research Institutes in the category of Regional and local authorities.
