Update: Slovenia

There has been a significant increase in the total number of Web sites since 31 December 1999. The largest growth in Web presence among organisations was achieved by hospitals (166,7%). There was also a notable increase in the number of primary and secondary schools with the Web presence reaching 42,5% and 29,2%, respectively.

Large increases were also noted in the categories of libraries (103,7%) and municipalities (95,6%) compared to the first WWW sites indicators report of 31 June 1999. Here, it should be noted that the number of Web pages for these two categories increased mainly during the last three months while there was almost no noticeable increase in 1999. This could be explained by the lack of regular updates of information by the Government Centre for Informatics and Institute of Information Science.

The number of organisations with access to the Internet increased significantly during the last year; and the number of organisations with an established Web presence in the public sector achieved the ‘critical mass’ that stimulates other organisations to deploy their own web pages. The increase in schools with a Web presence could also be explained by the competition between schools in Web page design.

* There are two Universities plus 16 additional high schools. University of Ljubljana consists of 27 Faculties (23 of them have their own homepages), University of Maribor consists of 10 Faculties (all of which have their own homepages).
