Update: Tunisia

No significant changes of the number of websites have occurred during the past three months. It is obvious that Internet website presence in Tunisia is growing very slowly due to a small Internet penetration figure of the country and the lack of high-speed infrastructure. Approximately 30,000 Internet subscribers exist, but it is estimated that there are 170,000 Internet users, therefore increasing the Internet penetration in Tunisia to 1,8%.

The numbers of schools and universities as well as hospital/clinics/health center population have been updated due to the new 1999-2000 statistical data published by the Tunisian National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Making a comparison with the previous INS data reporting, the school population is augmented by 53 (+0.92% growth rate). This is due to the increment of primary public schools by 15, secondary public schools by 47 and due to the decrement of primary private schools by 1 and secondary private schools by 8. In the health sector, the health establishment population is augmented by +1,39% due to the creation of 29 new health centers. (Source: National Institute of Statistics)

23 governorates and 257 municipal councils make up the regional and local authorities in Tunisia. Unfortunately no official website have been announced until today. (Source: Ministry of the Interior)

The official homepages of the National Ministries are located under a unique website named "Le Gouvernement Tunisien" (www.ministeres.tn). In this site the homepage of the "Ministère des Droits de l'Homme, de la Communication et des Relations avec la Chambre des Députés" is not currently available due to homepage maintenance and reconstruction.
